American Purple Gallinule – frango-d’agua-azulPorphyrio martinica. Late news, this bird was found and photographed by Gilberto Rodrigues (Betinho) this constitutes the first record for Intervales.

11/03/2011 Perequê-Açu, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Willet – maçarico-de-asa-brancaTringa semipalmata. Found and photographed feeding along the mud at low tide along the rivermouth by Rick and Elis Simpson. This constitutes the first documented record for Ubatuba.

17/02/2011 PESM Intervales, Ribeirão Grande, São Paulo. Brown-backed Parrotletapium-de-costas-pretasTouit melanonotus.A group of birds was heard by Robson Silva e Silva. This species is becoming better know as a result of the birds at Praia Vermelha in Ubatuba, and they are beginning to surface in other localities as observers learn more about them. Recently a photograph was published of a bird at the nest taken in Rio de Janeiro in 2009, understandably the location is a secret, and more recently RafaelFortes heard the species at the Reserva Guainumbi in São Luiz do Paraitinga at the top of ther Serra do Mar.

05/01/2011 Itaguá, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Fulvous Whistling-Duck – marreca-canaleiraDendrocygna bicolor. Two birds found late morning on the sea by Elis Simpson with Rick Simpson and Jeremy Minns. Later, in the afternoon, three birds were present and photographed.

06/01/2011 Perequê-Açu, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Scarlet Ibis – Guará - Eudocimus ruber. Single adult breeding plumaged bird feeding along the edge of the mangroves at the estuary mouth, found and photographed by Elis and Rick Simpson.

07/01/2011 Praia Vermelha do Sul, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Brown-backed Parrotlet – apuim-de-costas-pretasTouit melanonotus. Photographed by Carlos Rizzo but news didn’t get out until the 11th. Thankfully the birds were still present on the 14th when seen and photographed by Rick and Elis Simpson, Rafael Fortes, Marcelo Bareiros and Marco Crozariol. Present again on the 15th and 16th resting in the same group of Beach Almond – amendoa de praia – Teminalia catappa trees. These birds remained in the area intil months end.

05/12/2010 Itauguá beach, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Black Skimmer – talha-mar - Rhynchops niger. Immature bird on the beach, resting on the sand, feeding just off shore. Suffered a little aggression from the local Kelp Gull – gaivotãoLarus domincana population.

11/12/2010 Dura beach, Ubatuba, São Paulo. King Vulture – urubu-reiSarcoramphus papa. Adult bird seen perched by Jeremy Minns, local person reported the bird had been there since the day before.

12/12/2010 Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. Grey Ploverbatuiruçu-de-axila-preta - Pluvialis squatarola. [This bird was originally identified as Swainson's Thrush - sabiá-de-óculos - Catharus ustulatus.]

At Ubatumirim Felipe Castro photographed a Tiny Hawkgavião-miudinhoAccipiter superciliosus the first record for Ubatuba and Yellow-headed Vultureurubu-de-cabeça-amarelaCathartes burrovianus a scarce species along the coast.

Single bird flew directly overhead the centre in a straight line south to north: Jardim Samambaia, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Crowned Slaty Flycatcherpeitica-de-chapeu-pretoGriseothyrannus aurantioatrocristatus. Good record for Ubatuba, an out of range migrant photographed by Carlos Rizzo.

18/11/2010 Fazenda Angelim, Sao Paulo. Blue Ground-Dove - pararu-azul - Claravis pretiosa. At least a male still present, found and photographed by Elis Simpson also seen by Rick Simpson, Kevin Zimmer and Ricardo Barbosa. Kevin Zimmer also recorded the voice of this species at Folha Seca earlier in the day: Itaguá, Ubatuba, São Paulo. White-necked Hawk – gavião-pomba-pequena - Leucopternis lacernulatus. An immature bird found and photographed by Valdeir Jose Santana sitting in a Guava tree two meters from the ground. This area is very urbanised, how this bird came to be there is anybody’s guess. It stayed overnight and was seen and photographed again the next morning, by the afternoon it had gone but wasn’t seen to leave: Itamambuca, Ubatuba, São Paulo. White-necked Stiltpernilongo-de-costas-brancasHimantopus melanurus. 5 birds photographed on the beach by Dimitri Matoszko: Sitio Ressaca, Ubatuba, São Paulo. 10/10/2010 Praia Ubatumirim, Ubatuba, São Paulo. Semipalmated Ploverbatuíra-do-bandoCharadrius semipalmatus. Seen and photographed by Rick and Elis Simpson; Praia Dura, Ubatuba, São Paulo. White-rumped Sandpipermaçarico-de-sobre-branco – Calidris fuscicollis. 9 individuals found by Jeremy Minns, later 6 seen of which 3 were too distant to age and 3 were juveniles which were photographed by Rick and Elis Simpson. These birds were incredibly tame and wandered around between the sunbathers and other beach-goers. The following day Jeremy found 9 again, and the day after just 7.

Seen by Teus Luijendjik, visiting Dutch birder.

25/07/2010 Private area in Ubatuba, São Paulo. Half-collared Sparrowtico-tico-do-campoArremon semitorquatus. A singing male found constitues a first record for Ubatuba. The bird was photographed. Also at the same area Stripe-breasted Starthroatbico-reto-de-banda-brancaHeliomasetr squamosus. A female, seen well but not photographed, this is also the first record for Ubatuba.
