Identification guides for the Brincando com Aves children.

Filed under: UBWC NEWS AND PROJECT UPDATES — rick @ 12:29

The children of the Brincando com Aves group have each been given a fold out identification guide of the birds of the Itamambuca Eco Resort. The resort is very close to the Ranário and so there is a great cross section of the species. This will help them enormously with their continued  growth in the understanding of the birds around them.

Our sincere thanks go to Dimitri Matoszko the owner of the resort for donating the booklets to the children.

For those who are visiting to view and photograph the Brown-backed Parrotlets, the Stygian Owl has been providing a second point of interest. Now there is a third. the Lesser Nighthawks are again roosting in the main town square 13 de Maio, near the taxi rank. If there are no birders there ask the taxi drivers, they’ll be happy to point the bird out to you.

The other day there was a group of 14 birders watching the birds as they fed and rested. One of them, Ciro Albano, a well known and repected photographer and guide had travelled from Forteleza in Ceará, about 2,300 km away in the north east.

These birds have given us unprecedented opportunities to observe and study their daily routines and behaviour, which until now has been largely a mystery. Rick and Elis Simpson are spending as much time as they can with the birds and enjoy meeting the visiting birders and condominium residents alike.

The UBWC would like to thank the administration of the condominium for their help and assistance facilitating the observation of these enigmatic birds.

Any birders visiting the site should remember that it is a private condominium and private property is strictly off limits, please stick to the roads when observing the birds.

The area has a ‘zona azul’ parking system in operation, the price is R$5.00 for the whole day in any area of the condominium, please remember to pay one of the agents that can be identified by yellow tabards with zona azul written on them.

Your co-operation in these matters will greatly enhance the relationship between birders and the residents and birders will continue to be made most welcome.

For more information on the birds and visiting arrangements please contact the UBWC info @ubwc.info.

Here’s a scanned copy of the half page spread.Brincando com aves.

The UBWC would again like to thank Cibele and Ernesto, Cida, Eduardo, Gilberto and June, members of the CEO that helped us with donations of food hampers for the families.
