New avian visitor.

Blond-crested Woodpecker is a regular bird at the Rancho Pica-Pau, however it had never visited the feeders at the UBWC until just recently. Douglas Carvalho, a visiting camper and bird photographer, spotted one at the feeders by the observation area and took this shot, the first record for the centre’s feeders.

Of course the bird now knows where we are and is a daily visitor to the bananas, this photo was taken by Elis today and shows the bird feeding in an unusual position.

Recent visit and donation.

While Rick was away from Ubatuba the centre was visited by three brothers one of whom was accompanied by his son. The Andersons were greeted by Odette who took them around the new trail where they enjoyed seeing the Reddish Hermits. At the end of their stay they donated US$20.00 which will be used to start a fund to buy some locally relevant volumes of the Handbook of the Birds of the World.

Our thanks go to Paul Anderson, who donated the money, and his brothers Richard and David and Richard’s son, Paul for their visit and interest in our project.

2009 round up.

Filed under: UBWC NEWS AND PROJECT UPDATES — rick @ 17:17

This was the year that the idea of opening a birdwatching centre in Ubatuba was hatched, developed and realised. It was an ambitious idea as nothing of its kind has been attempted in Brazil before. There have some ups and downs along the way, progress has been slow but sure.

We thought the story could be told best in pictures, so here goes:
